Aging. Like It Or Not.

Elasticity – I used to have it. My skin used to spring back after it was tugged. Now, it takes a nap and snaps back when it feels like it.

One color hair – Now, there is a lot of another color, that I refuse to name, playing bully all up on my scalp. Not. OK.

Drooping – OK. I’m just gonna leave this one as is.

Body hair – Ladies…If I’m ever unconscious in the hospital and you come to visit me and notice a stray hair somewhere on my face…please pull it out! Please!

Criss-Cross-Applesauce – I can still sit like that, but I do not get up very gracefully or recover from the beating my legs took to bend that way.

You all have read my gripes about aging, a lot. Turning 40 last year was tough. It’s like, beyond middle aged.

Anyhoo…How old are you? Yes. I just asked you that. And what have you noticed most about aging?

  1. I will be 21… in an hour and 20 minutes. I guess I've got a ways to go… but, I have noticed that I can't squat like little kids do. Sometimes I try when I'm coaching swim team to get closer to the water.. but not for very long. I feel like I'm going to fall over… and not to mention it just hurts my ankles. But hey, I'm only 21. I shouldn't complain.

  2. When I turned thirty, my dad warned me that it was a Holton tendency to gain ten pounds at every decade mark.

I dismissed it as rubbish, took up running as a hobby, and shaved off 10-15 pounds.

I stopped running after my marathon in 2007, and have gained about 40 pounds since then.

I am hoping that's my four decades' worth right there.

    I turn 40 next year.

  3. Oh Lord… I feel ancient now

my knees crack every time I squat, I have 5 or 6 grey hairs that repeadtedly insist on attempting to make an appearance and I consistantly evict them when they try to appear.

Sadly, I turn 46 in 2 months… heading over the hill and my brakes are failing….

  4. I am turning 40 this fall and I am excited! I am not excited about the extra hair, which started this year. I looked in a hotel bathroom mirror and saw 3(!) chin hairs practically waving and mocking me. I wonder how long those were there before I noticed.

      • I always look forward to new decades…and I love the look on peoples faces when they hear I will be 40, since I have 3 kids under the age of 4. It's like they think I'm beating the odds or something, it's hilarious.

I used to fear the 40's because I thought you had to have a midlife crisis. That was before I realized with eternal life there is no midlife!

  5. I'm 25. I lack overall excitation that the kids I used to be "in charge of " at my old job who are middle schoolers seemed to display with such bounty. Ha.

  6. I am 16. Yep only 16 and I am still living up the fact that I can eat junk food and not have to pay for it for a couple more years. Aging has included being taller and not having to worry about gray hairs or bad knees. But I do have to worry about those pesky little zits every once in a while!

  7. 44. Not adapting as quickly as I used to with these time changes. Varicose veins (ouch!!) And that nagging thought that I'm not getting any younger, feeling like I've wasted too many years, and wondering how I can reclaim some of them.

  8. I'm 29.
My number one sign of aging has been a few white hairs. Overnight. I'm gonna be one of those cool old ladies with a random stripe of white hair.
I had so many aches and pains when I was younger though, that I feel better than I used to. I can remember being 22, newly married, working and going to school and coming home with so many aches and pains that I feared aging. Being a stay at home mommy was the best thing I could do for my health… and so far it hasn't all caught up with me yet! Eeeek!

  9. uuuugh….. I'm not old by any means, but my body would argue against that. I'll be 30 this year (how old do you feel NOW?!). Isn't that crazy?!

It's not so much the number that bothers me, but the way my body feels already and the signs I'm noticing ALREADY….. it's too early!

    • -call them smile lines if you want, but they sure look a lot like crows feet. Shouldn't we be rewarded for smiling a lot?! ;o)
-facial hair, enough to rival a teenage boy trying to grow a beard. You know it's insane when your husband suggests electrolosis. ;o) Oh yes.
-That whole criss cross thing…. yeah, I laughed at that. My knees KILL ME if they are in the same position too long. I limp a lot if I sit one way for more than 30 minutes. It's ridiculous.
-I don't bounce back after being sick. If I'm sick, it will take me weeks to feel 100% again….. which I rarely see b/c with three kids I'm bound to catch something again. ;o)
-oh, and the best of all…. not being able to eat what I used to without ALSO having to take a pill so my body doesn't act up from too much flavor excitement. That one kills me. LOL
-my memory. My memory is shot….which isn't so much funny as it is worrisome…. :o

I blame all of this on having three kids in quick succession. haha! ;o)

  10. I'm 31. I've been fighting the gray hair "battle" since I was 6 or 7. I know that gray hair is some kind of sign of wisdom, but, I don't like them. I have two or three colors in my hair too, hoping to help hide the gray ones!

  11. I am 37, when I wake up in the morning I sound like a bowl of rice krispies and it seems like something different hurts every day…I have a few little silver hairs, and my hair is thinning out, which I really don't like because I already have fine hair.

      • Four years ago, my son then 10, ran over me with his bike. We have a really long driveway and he rode his bike from the back of the driveway gaining lots of speed and could not stop. I was standing at the front of the driveway helping my youngest son into a car to go to a birthday party when I heard from behind me "LOOK OUT MOM!" The next thing I knew I was flying through the air and landed in the grassy area just a few feet from the street. The front tire of his bike hit my right hip and I flew five feet through the air and my back did like an accordion thing. That little accident put me out of order for almost a year with a hip fracture I didn't know I had and it healed wrong. That's one of my "Snap, crackle, and pops" in the morning. My son and I get teased now about bicycles…. I teased him and told him he could do a science fair project on how many mph you have to go to make your mom fly…LOL!

          • You don't have to be sorry, we think it's pretty funny now. My husband laughed at me when I came into the house all covered in grass and told him what happened. Now it's kinda a joke between my son and I….and I stay on the front porch when he rides his bike now.

  12. 32. How little people actually change.

Somehow when I was younger, I viewed … oh somewhere abouts this age … as ancient, and figured that everyone would be SO different. What’s most amazing is how different people aren’t. Every one of my friends is basically exactly the same person they were “way back when.” I like that.

  13. i actually had the thought today that once i turn 41 this year then i will 'technically' be IN my 40's. and for some reason…that made me feel better. guess i've no other choice, eh?
    ;)
